Cats in the lives of famous people

Cats have been objects of interest to people around the world for a long time. They were first worshipped and domesticated in Egypt before they were bred and exported overseas, where they became trustworthy companions and widely admired.

“The Cats“ Broadway musical, is a good example of how these furry miracles can inspire artists of different eras.

Cats were played the central roles in literature chef d`oeuvres, such as “Master and Margarita” by L Tolstoy, Cats were irreplaceable companions for known figures like Sir Winston Churchill, where his cat Jock needed to be present at the table for any meal to begin.

Sir Isaac Newton created the cat door, or cat flap, so that his feline friends could come and go as they wished without letting too much light into his laboratory. Invented in the 17th century, door flap is still a much needed article to help cats circulate in and out of the house.

The gifted inventor Nikola Tesla first wondered about electricity as a young child while petting his cat Macak. Sparks produced by the repetitive contact of his palm with the cat’s fur pushed Tesla to later make phenomenal discoveries in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering!

People are easily entranced by a cat’s graceful gait, their hypnotic eyes and relaxing purr. Now, there are lots of “Cat Lovers” clubs, fancy grooming salons and cat clothing lines. People appreciate pets such as cats so much, that sometimes they go on shopping sprees just to please them and purchase items like the frontline for cats.

Cats aren’t only aesthetically pleasing; they also possess some therapeutic values. A study done in 2002 at the State University of New York (K, Allen, J. Blascovich, and W.B. Mendes) discovered that being exposed to a cat and petting a cat can significantly lower a person’s blood pressure. In their article called “Cardiovascular Reactivity and the Presence of Pets, Friends and Spouses: the Truth about Cats and Dogs,” they explain the means by which cats can help lower stress and benefit someone’s overall health.

One of the reasons cats are so popular in North America is that they’re low maintenance pets. The American Veterinary Medical Association in 2007 stated that in the United States there are over 82 million felines being kept as pets. According to Wikipedia , cats kept exclusively indoors, benefit from a longer life span. They are less likely to come in contact with diseases and bacteria, are protected from cat fight injuries and are not susceptible to being hit by a car. However keeping a cat indoors or letting it out, is a purely personal choice, that depends on many circumstances. However loving your cat is a must. If you take someone in, you are responsible for them. We need to never let them down.

Sigmun Freud once said that “Time spend with a cat is never wasted.”
