How To Stop Dog Chewing

Doggy Training Guide

It’s a good idea to realize that dogs chew stuff by nature. But is it too much chewing behavior that for our sake’s, we need to do something about. Is it destructive enough to take action?

This Is Why Doggies Chew

  • Because it feels good to chew whilst teathing
  • Dogs use there mouths just as much as we use out hands to maneuver the world
  • {They get bored! and they will chew a lot while bored or anxious}

It is crucial that we also understand that sometimes the chewing is a result of stress - usually from being left all alone for too long.  To fix it, we need to learn a thing or two.  Can you image? It’s US that must learn in this case.  What do ya know?

How To Stop Dog Chewing:

Doggy proofing the house will take care of 85% of the problem. Just think of him like a little kid and put certain things up high or in the attic until he can be trusted. Easy!

Make fun chew toys always easily accessible. And keep fresh water out frequently - dogs get thirsty too! Training your dog is all about strategy and using your noggin to think through problem behavior.

Keep your treasured belongings way out of reach of the rascal. Such things might be: shoes, socks, hats, gloves, cushions, books and many other things that tend to be strewn about the house. And make sure to tuck away any electrical wires so these don’t get ruined and your dog doesn’t get hurt.

And please don’t just leave him to his own devices in your house while you go out for long periods. You are just asking for it unless you dog proof it and also section off a sufficiently big enough ’safe’ area.

Another great tip is not to purchase the shoe-shaped chew toy; guess why not? This is just showing her that shoes are fair game.

Sectioning of a large dog proof area is what you want - like the kitchen. Be sure he has something padded to lie on and water to drink.

And just one important pointer, nobody enjoys being left alone for long periods and no dog does either. Please get him a friend if you need to be away frequently.

Some Other Things To Consider:
If you catch your dog chewing one of your favorite belongings, use the interrupt and redirect technique. If you do this everytime without freaking out, your pup will learn quickly!

Just Interrupt her when you catch her in the act.  Say ‘No’ firmly.  It is essential that you do not use his name so she doesn’t start associating the name with bad times.

Then redirect her to one of her ‘on-limits’ items. With solid consitency, this will cause her to figure out that certain things are off limits and her chew toys are fair game.

I sure hope you got a lot out of this and if you want your dog to stop this and other dog behavior problems, check out this review of SitStayFetch to dicover tons more.
